About Me

(The personal bit)
Vikki Schofield adding colour to a sugar rose

I am Vikki, I have always loved cake, and my grandmother would often recall how, as soon as I could talk, I would climb up onto the chair in her kitchen bang my little fist on the table, and demand “cake Nana, cake”.  Her baking was my inspiration and I have continued to bake throughout my life.

I worked as a nanny for many years and always enjoyed baking with the children (I didn’t enjoy the clearing up afterwards quite so much!).  I went on to work as a cook in private households, which gave me the opportunity to create lots of delicious cakes, desserts, biscuits and chocolates.

When my niece asked me to make her 5-tier wedding cake I agreed without thinking it through, I had never made a tiered cake before, and it was quite a daunting task.  I thoroughly enjoyed the process and it sparked a passion for cake decorating that I have nurtured ever since.

What started as a hobby continued with me enrolling on courses, attending cake decorating classes and studying all aspects of this fascinating and constantly developing art, to ensure I am up to date with current trends and techniques.

This has spurred me on to bake and make the beautiful cakes you see here and many more besides.  I enjoy creating luxury cakes in original designs to be the perfect centrepiece of any celebration but particularly to please a bridal couple and wow their wedding guests.

When I escape from my cake studio, I love to spend time with my 3 rescue cats.  They get very upset that I keep my studio door firmly closed to them (no one wants cat hair in their wedding cake!), so often cry at the door when I am working.  I am a volunteer fosterer for a local charity, Thames Valley Animal Welfare and have a “cat cabin” in my garden which houses whichever cats I have at the moment.

I also love to travel and use my holidays to explore the wildlife of whatever country I visit, both on the ground or under the sea.  Whether that is trekking through the jungle in Costa Rica to the sound of howler monkeys, sitting in a jeep on a game reserve in South Africa watching lions and hyenas, or scuba diving in the Philippines or Bali.  I have dived with many species of sharks (yes, including great whites), and just love their elegance, but I also love the colourful little slug-like nudibranchs, my favourite marine creature though is seahorses, and I am obsessed by them – even my wedding ring in is the shape of a seahorse!

I love to work with couples who don’t want a “copycat” wedding cake, but something unique.  I will take your ideas and together with my own input, create the cake of your dreams.

“Huge thanks for making such a beautiful cake for our special day. You captured exactly what it was we wanted, and we have received so many compliments on the design.  A few pieces of the cake made it home with us and we have enjoyed every last bite” TS
